Bangor Area Stormwater Group

The Bangor Area Stormwater Group (BASWG) is a collaboration of Bangor, Brewer, Hampden, Milford, Old Town, Orono, Veazie, Eastern Maine Community College, Maine Air National Guard, University of Maine Augusta – Bangor and University of Maine to use public education and sound science to improve regional water quality through collaborative stormwater management in the Greater Bangor Urbanized Areas.

  • Good Housekeeping/Pollution Prevention

Over the last ten years, BASWG has completed more than thirty regionalization projects, secured more than $350,000 in grant funds to support this work, and achieved well over $750,000 in taxpayer savings for its member communities. Some of our recent projects include:

  • Collaborating on developing a Statewide Road Salt Reduction Plan.
  • Annual Street & Stream Cleanups in each community and on every campus.
  • Annual stenciling campaigns to raise public awareness of stormwater pollution.

BASWG created a bus wrap to be displayed on community buses in and around Bangor. The bus educates about stormwater pollution, featuring characters from our educational videos.
