The Animal Control Officer (ACO) is in charge of animal welfare and stray domesticated animals (cats, dogs) including enforcing laws, capturing and impounding stray animals, and investigating animal cruelty, vicious animals, and nuisance animal complaints.

The ACO and local law enforcement officers are not trained to handle wild animals such as gophers, skunks, raccoons, foxes, etc. For these complaints, contact the Maine Warden Service at 207-941-4440.
