Superintendent of Public Works
George "Butch" Free
The Public Works Department is responsible for the upkeep and constant
repair to all Town owned property, provide a 24-hour, 7 days a weeks on-call
service, and continue to work on scheduled projects throughout the year.
Typical duties include snow removal, spring clean up, maintaining and
burial preparations for Fairview Cemetery, as well as grounds maintenance
at the new school and sports fields.
The Public Works Department is made up of three full-time and one part-time
personnel. They all are working very hard to complete a series of many
workshops and seminars required to achieve the Road Scholar Degree. Advanced
Welding, Work Zone Traffic Control, Basic Paving Contracts and Inspection
Techniques, Electrical Safety, Snow and Ice Control, are just a few of
the many required programs.
For several years the Public Works Department has strived to become as
self-sufficient as possible, thus making it possible to better serve the
community.
Much of the equipment used daily was designed and manufactured "in
house" by department members, i.e. pavement rollers, screens for
winter sand, sidewalk sander, utility trailers, just to name a few.
The staff of the Public Works Department take great pride in their department,
services they provide, as well as in completed projects.
