Meeting Minutes
Call to Order: 6:03 PM (1803)
Present: Bill Reed (Town Mgr., arrived 6:01 PM), Suzanne Hart (Chair), Marilynn Bishop, Bill Hogan, Kelly Clenchy (Orono-VZ Schools Supt.), Scott Nichols (VZ Community School Principal), Duska Hayman & Kim Daghger (VZ School Committee), Gary Brooks (Sewer Dir., arrived 6:03 PM),Todd Lynch (citizen), and J. Manter (recorder).

Veazie School Committee Report
Kelly Clenchy, School District Supt., presented the Veazie Community School Budget for the 2008-2009 year, with assistance from Principal Scott Nichols and School Committee member Duska Hayman. These notes –
- the old chart of accounts will be used until July 2008
- the proposed budget seeks a decrease of funds.
- Insured value factor – State moratorium for a 1 year period.
Tuition –
- Public – increase - $22,806 @ 5%
- Special Education to private school – increase - $44,000 ( 1 year for 1 student at Old Town Regional Program)
Pertinent Budget Variances -
- Pupil transportation – increase -$10,525 @ 14.3%.
Veazie School Staff –
- 20.35 full-time equivalent teachers
- .35 Nurse ( included w/ above)
- 10 Special education teachers (2 High School level)
-1 Secretary, and
- 4 part-time Food service workers.
Grade configuration –
- 15 Kindergarten (projected)
- 168 total enrollment – VZ Community School
- High School projected enrollment -23
-114 – total High school enrollment.
11 Cost centers – total increase -$190,162 @ 4%.
Proposed revenue sources –
- State funds - $213,497
- Decrease of local funds - $15,835 (w/ $11o,000 carry fund).

B. Hogan – Insurance for Staff: contributing to costs? (Yes – S. Nichols)

S. Hart – Classroom availability? (At capacity – S. Nichols)
J. Manter – Enrollment projections – 5-10 years? (Nothing drastic – K. Clenchy & S. Nichols)
- Consolidation w/ Orono & Glenburn? (Going smoothly – D. Hayman)
G. Brown - Percent of voters decide School Budget ballot 7 days after Town Meeting? (No – K. Clenchy)
Todd Lynch – What if School Budget referendum fails to pass? (back to the drawing board – K. Clenchy)
M. Bishop – Absentee ballot for Town meeting? (Referendum questions only – B. Reed).
Towm Mgr. Reed explained the referendum ballot process and the validity problems under Maine law.
B. Hogan praised the School officials and Committee members on the presentation.
It was the opinion of the Committee that no Wednesday meeting was necessary. The Committee changed the date of the next meeting to 30 April.
